Abyssinian

The Abyssinian is one of the world’s oldest cat breeds, though its exact origin is a source of continuing debate.  Making matters even more confusing is the fact they are named after the city in Ethiopia from which they were first exported to England for show, instead of their most likely region of origin - the Egyptian coast. Furthermore, many cats used to refine the breed may have made their way to England by way of colonists and merchants stopping in Kolkata. These people-oriented, intelligent cats are fine-boned in structure, with moderately wedge-shaped heads.  Their short, sleek coat is usually reddish-brown with black “ticks” but other color variations exist. While not necessarily lap cats, they enjoy the company of their people and are loyal, entertaining companions.
