Dove

Most doves are not pets or are only suitable for the experienced aviculturist, but the diamond dove and ring-necked dove are two species commonly kept as pets. They may bond closely with their people or remain aloof -- the individual dove, whether it is paired with a mate, and how much time it spends with its owner all factor in. Regardless, they prefer and will do better with companionship throughtout the day -- be it other bird or person. They are vocal birds, well known for their expressive cooing, but do not screech. Doves can be housed indoors or outdoors (with appropriate protection from elements and predators, of course), and do well on a pelleted diet, seeds and grit for digesting seeds.
