Macaw

Macaws are intelligent, playful, and expressive (i.e. they can make a lot of noise!) birds, who are ill-suited to apartment life, but great pets for a bird owner who has enough time and space. Personality wise, Macaws are highly trainable, good talkers, affectionate, and known for their sense of humors (though there is some debate about whether they prefer laughing with or at their owners!) These hearty and instantly recognizable birds -- especially the blue-and-gold and greenwing macaws -- can live up to five decades, so they are a serious long-term responsibility. Macaws will do well on a pelleted diet supplemented with fresh vegetables, seeds, nuts and fruit.
