Scottish Fold

This breed had its beginnings in (surprise!) Scotland when a shepherd spotted cat a bearing this unusual ear mutation on a farm and asked the farmer if he could have one of her kittens. This cat, Susie, became the foundation for developing the Scottish Fold breed – all cats in this breed share this common ancestry.  While the incomplete dominant gene that causes the folding has been associated with crippling deformities in some cats, this issue can be largely eliminated by not breeding homozygous individuals. Their unique look has been compared to “owls,” “pixies,” and “Teddy bears” and they are esteemed for their grounded, friendly personalities. They are hardy cats and not particularly vocal.
