The Barbet is a water dog with roots that can be traced to 14th century France. They are hunters, love being close to their owners, and are known for having “clownish” personalities. They are large dogs (26” tall) who need regular exercise. They have hair, rather than fur, and it must be brushed regularly to avoid tangles and matting. The Barbet is currently being recorded in the AKC Foundation Stock Service.
