Birman

Many countries and cultures have made contributions to the Birman breed, as well as the myths and legends surrounding this captivating feline. They are also known as the “Sacred Cat of Burma,” a nod to the depth of their history and country of origin. One story attributes their initial arrival in France to a Vanderbilt smuggling them out of Burma. Another claims that they were gifts from monks in Burma to those helping defend their temple. Regardless of the accuracy of the rich lore surrounding this breed, Birmans are cherished for their sweet nature and ease of handling. They are a healthy breed of medium size and possess relatively quiet and refined voices. Their medium length, lush fur coat has no undercoat and does not mat. Birmans come in a multitude of color-point variations including seal, blue, lilac, chocolate, red, cream, and tortie.
